NFEC Mission of the Chapters Across the Caribbean

The National Financial Educators Council roots its mission in the goal to provide people across the Caribbean region with the knowledge and direction they need to gain greater financial well-being. To reach that goal, we mobilize a cadre of diverse financial wellness champions around the world and provide them with training and resources so they can support members of their community to achieve greater financial security.

Accomplishing our mission involves posing rigorous standards, creating evidence-based measures and curriculum, and forging partnerships with schools, employers, and community groups to take proven programs to scale. By constantly adapting our approaches based on carefully-measured results, we ensure that our efforts have real, lasting positive effects on people’s financial lives.

Social Vision

The Financial Educators Council is working to create a world where people are equipped to make qualified financial decisions and confidently take effective financial action that allows them to meet their basic human needs while moving closer to fulfilling their personal, family, and worldwide community goals.

Leadership

We lead by setting standards, advancing policies, and organizing strategic advocacy campaigns that raise the quality and reach of financial education. Our leadership is practical and evidence-based: we build consensus, produce defensible guidance, and mobilize partners to drive systemic change.

Independence

All NFEC materials are developed independently and free from commercial bias or promotional content. Our sole priority is helping people improve their financial well-being; every curriculum, tool, and assessment is created to serve learners, not sponsors.

Empowerment

Our commitment to empowerment has expanded since day one. We began by helping individuals improve their own finances; today we also equip educators, community leaders, and organizations with the training and resources to share that knowledge widely – amplifying impact across communities.

High Education Standards, Real Social Impact

The Caribbean Chapter is dedicated to advancing financial educators who serve the community and are held to the highest professional and educational standards. By supporting educator training, professional development, and evidence-based instruction, the organization helps ensure that financial education programs deliver meaningful learning experiences and measurable improvements in people’s financial wellness.

Accreditation

As an IACET-accredited provider and a Certified B Corporation, the NFEC delivers financial education programming designed to produce measurable social impact. We are the only Accredited providers focused specifically on professional development in financial education, which means our courses, assessments, and PD meet third-party standards for quality and learner outcomes.

Social Impact

B Corp certification and IACET accreditation required rigorous third-party review of our operations – how our practices affect clients, employees, communities, and the environment – and verify that we meet high standards for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. These credentials give partners and funders confidence that our work is ethical, evidence-based, and committed to continuous improvement.

History

Founded in 2006, the National Financial Educators Council began with a mission to increase the professionalism, standards, and influence of financial education. Initial programs focused on equipping financial educators with standards-based training, curriculum, and professional credentials. Today the effort has grown into a global initiative committed to improving financial capability around the world.

Now graduates of the Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI®) program serve communities across more than 100 countries. The first chapters in the Caribbean began forming in 2011 in the Bahamas, Jamaica, Barbados,Trinidad and Tobago, and Belize alongside the first international graduates of the CFEI program. As many of the best practices for teaching personal finance – including behavior-focused instruction, real-world application, and learner outcomes – are universal across countries, these early efforts helped build a foundation on which to expand NFEC programs internationally.

As global interest in increasing financial literacy grows, the NFEC supports regional campaigns to enhance access to top-quality financial education while respecting the local economic context, culture, and policies. The NFEC leverages these efforts to strengthen the financial literacy infrastructure and create economic empowerment across the Caribbean region.
