How We Support Financial Educators and Communities Across the Caribbean
Leading Training & Credentials for Financial Educators
The NFEC has trained and certified more than 5,000 graduates who completed our Certified Financial Education Instructor (CFEI) course. Our CFEI-certified educators have successfully completed over 300,000 hours of professional development. Their efforts have reached over 1.4 million people in more than 71 countries and in every U.S. state.
At the heart of our movement lie the industry standards we developed for well-qualified financial educators. The Framework for Teaching Personal Finance (adapted in partnership with the Danielson Group and based on InTASC principles) defines the knowledge, aptitudes, and recognizable practices that distinguish financial educators of the highest caliber. The CFEI credential indicates that an instructor meets those standards – leading every program with the utmost rigor, ethical practice, and instructional excellence.
Launch-to-Impact Program Support
The NFEC provides start-to-finish support so program leaders and teachers can focus on results. Whether you’re creating an initiative from scratch or building on an existing program, we help design and staff scalable, high-quality financial education campaigns that achieve measurable impact. We approach all program development with a simple goal: improve effectiveness while reducing the time, cost, and personnel required to get results.
The financial education movement operates at the grassroots level, and we strive to offer equitable access so organizations of any size can provide meaningful programs. Through turnkey materials, training, funding guidance, and local collaboration, we help communities deliver practical financial education programming that develops confidence, capability, and resilience across the long term.
Community Mobilization – Local Chapter Leadership
Our regional chapters propel targeted awareness-raising, local support, and financial wellness initiatives capable to scale – transforming instructor training into action. From life-altering skills to partnerships with community leaders, NFEC chapters have provided support to local organizations and celebrated their effectiveness with award ceremonies to recognize outstanding students, educators, and community champions.
Each chapter is led by a regional Advisory Board whose efforts emphasize three priorities: Empowerment – giving individuals and families skills and confidence to make informed financial decisions; Advocacy – spearheading multi-level initiatives to secure funding and support policy change; and Relationships – developing partnerships with educational institutions, employers, media, and legislators to drive policy adoption and create sustainability. In combination, these pillars convert classroom learning into lasting, quantifiable community change.
National Advocacy with Community Impact
The NFEC is intensifying action to make sure that young people graduate from high school with the financial skills they need to become self-sufficient. We’ve moved to a multi-faceted, results-driven advocacy strategy – enhancing standards, shaping public opinion, progressing policy, and driving systems reform to eradicate financial illiteracy. By building relationships, adopting rigorous standards, and targeting policy change, we’re driving a movement that makes financial wellness a national priority across the health, economic, and educational sectors.
We have mobilized individuals and organizations with a passion for promoting financial education by inviting them to join our United for Financial Literacy Advocacy Committee. Each quarter we target a specific campaign on which to focus efforts to advance financial wellness.
